I am concerned about the sudden disappearance of Burt on the threads here at TownHall. I have been catching him at Big Hollywood though, so at least I can still read his columns. Burt was one of my favorite contributor's and I looked forward to reading him on Monday's and Friday's.
Apparently, he got his "pink slip" via email from Johnathan Garthwaite. The stated reason for cutting Burt was due to the economic downturn. According to Burt he was paid $20 for each of his weekly columns. There was no attempt to renegotiate Burt's compensation or even to reduce the columns to only once weekly. Burt asked that TownHall post a notice about Burt's departure, so that his readers would know that he just didn't quit or die and that his columns could be found elsewhere. The request was denied.
I find this curious since Burt's threads always had a great number of posts from readers and his reader ratings were consistently high. I have taken down all my previous Blog posts and will cancel my subscription to TownHall, if Burt is not brought back, that is if he would even consider coming back within the next 30 days. I will miss all the people that I have enjoyed getting to know and posting with since 2006 but find that TownHall has not handled this situation with grace or even with common courtesy for the readers or for Burt.
Have no idea if the powers that be at TownHall will take notice of or even care that a loyal reader, poster is gone.
